last essay!

in this blog entry i plan to wrtie about the author we studied in class, Frank J. Sulloway. i know that we can write about whatever specific aspect of this authors writing that we want, and i have choosen to write about the way Sulloway is able to slip in such scientific names in to such a topic that may seem farfetched to some readers. Sulloway points this out to us in page 1 of his book Born To Rebel, where he states, Why do some people, like Darwin, accept new ideas, and yet otheres oppose the same innovation? In this simple sentence Sulloway uses the name of probably the greatest thinker pretaining to the theory of evolution, and he basically tells the reader that, yes we may not accept this idea of birth order. Sulloway is just like Charles Darwin, in fact, he very subtly compares himself to Darwin in this line i have choosen, maybe not directly, or even on purpose, but in my opinion he does, and i think the comparision is fare. i loved the sulloway reading this whole birth order thing actually blew my mind, at first it didnt, but then i started thinking and researching, and my god this is really all real, im sure the first thinkers presented to the idea of evolution by Darwin felt the same way.....

some other examples within Sulloway's writing is in his book, Freud: Biologist of the Mind. the title explains who and what the book is about. One of if not the most famous social scientist in history Sigmund Freud. So already we see Sulloway is citing, and writing whole books about some of the greatest social thinkers of all time, men who single handedly changed the way people of their own times think. i think sulloway is trying to tell us maybe he is as good, and is as good a thinker (as far as this new idea of birth order goes) as Darwin and Freud.

Sulloway has even become so popular to be named in books about other thinkers like Freud in a book entitled Freud and his critics, by Paul A. Robinson.

again not about the giants, but....

ok this time im going to write about the author Frank Sulloway and his book Birth Order and Sibling Competition. In this book Sulloway makes the claims about the fact that birth order has to do with the personality diffrences between siblings of diffrent ages. He contends the fact that siblings who are born first, second, third and so on are affected diffrently simply by whichever birth order they happen to stumble into. What sulloway is claiming is that "40% of total variance in personality is genetic" ( Sulloway 2007 298). so what Sulloway is saying is that my personality is based purely on the luck of my genetic make up and which birth order i happen to fall into. This question can be answered, in my opinion by one simple word, and in my opinion that word is yes. So basically i think that Sulloway has the perfect idea, my personality is based on my familys genetic history and my birth order, i definently believe i am more of a dominant person because i have a younger brother, and thats the way my father was. i beleieve sulloway has the completely right idea, and more people need to be looking at things like this.

ok so this isnt about the giants, but....

It is about the author Ovid. Ovid wrote a series of three book entitled the books of love. In these books, Ovid covers three subjects, first for single men, how to get a girl, second for those men with girls, how too keep them, third is for the women and how they should act to keep their men. These books are not the holy grail to relationship advice, it was written a long time ago so it is outdated but, the principals still work, there is only one problem i have with Ovid. In his first book about men trying to "get" women he talks about being freindly to the female who your trying to acquires's suitor. With this statement Ovid is basically telling you to go after married women. This is adultry, now God knows im not the best Catholic around but i like to beleieve and try to follow rules as much as possible. What Ovid is suggesting directly breaks one of the ten commandments, theres only ten, you can live with not breaking any of them. God knows i have broken one, maybe two depending on your definition of one of them, but what Ovid is preaching and supportin g is a direct violation against the commandment regarding adultry. In short, i love the way Ovid writes his works are long, but helpful and intelligible, but, being a fairly good religous man i cannot condone his ideas, his methods may work, but his ideas about married women are not one i would like to follow.

Week 4

the giants had week 4 off in the national football league, but that doesnt mean i cant make a post because big things did happen for the giants. EVERY TEAM IN THE GIANTS DIVISION LOST, except for the Redskins and im sure the only reason they didnt lose is cuz they were playing the Cowboys another team in giants division... hahahaha, this means with their 3-0 record the G-MEN are in first place in the division woohoo! i also wanna talk about the goodbye to She and Yankee Stadiums. this is one of the saddest momentsa of the year for me, easily, however i am a yankee fan and i consider the way they ended winning and without making the playoffs it was still great the last game that is. and what makes it much sweeter is that the Mets, in their last game at Shea lose to be eliminated from the playoffs...hahahaha, this was an extremely funny weekend in my sporting world.

week 3......

ok, so week 3 didnt go as according to plan as most people thought, but, the giants did come out on top of a tough battle against the bengals. Alot of people thought the giants would walk all over the bengals, i for one did not, granted i did n ot expect the game to be as close as it was, or gol into ot, but i did expect the giants to win and that they did. the only other news to come out of the game was aaron ross, the giants star cb going down in the late 4th quater, i dont know what happenned yet but all prayers he is ok. if not ill be sure to complain about it in my next blog entry.

Week 2!!!

If your reading this blog your probably either a Gianst fan or looking to find out about the Giants, well if you saw the game then you know and if you didnt see the game then you dont need to, all you need to know is that it was a 41 to 13 route of the St. Louis Rams, who were completely embarassed by the G-MEN. I dont need to say anything else about teh game, but we need to look forward to next week at Giants Stadium against the 0-2 Bengals so we need to win, now Lets Go G-MEN!!!!

Week 1

ok so after the first weeks game the G-MEN prove that no osi, no strahan, no problem, the giants defense gave up 1 touchdown at the end of the second quater and was dominant the rest of the night. The offense sputtered at times but when they were on they looked like the best in the league, Brandon Jacobs went over 100 rushing yard and Plaxico Burress (fresh with a new big contract extension) had 11 catcjes for over 100 yards, Eli Manning looked sharp at quaterback and I am quite looking foward to next week in St. Loius, especially after the way the Eagles beat up on the Rams today.

Injuries and departures

as my first entry ill just talk about the new york giants injuries and departures from the superbowl team. osi umenyiora is the big one along with michael strahan. gibril wilson and kawika mitchell are the other defensive starters gone for at least this year and pretty much the entire offense is back, also eli manning looks like a new quaterback so maybe we can just out score other teams we will have to see but the defense will be diffrent probably worse but we dont know that either.
